Campaign Diary
The Red Wedding at the Arena of Blood
I thought I would give you an update on the big kids’ table. We recently completed the official Spelljammer: Light of Xaryxis campaign. While it was very much a rail road adventure. We had some deviations from the adventure as written. The most notable of these was that the Vampirate Gargenhale survived because one of the players used a teleport spell to send the ring into the star at the end of the adventure.
Side note: I described the star going super nova then it collapsed into a black hole like the one in Doomspace. Now the party is seen as heroes by the liberated and BBEGs/genocidal maniacs by all astral elves.
Fast forward a session or two and the players received an invitation to the wedding between Gargenhale and Topolah, which was held at the Arena of Blood. Just as the exchange of vows started, emperor Xeleth arrived on his solar dragon and accompanied by a pack of werewolves and a vampire hunter. I used the Xeleth’s Big Entrance description, because the PC’s managed to skip that part of the adventure.
Several hours of combat and a cliffhanger later, we start today’s adventure…
When last we left our adventurers
As the sounds of battle fade away, you find yourself standing amidst the wreckage of a lavish wedding ceremony. The arena lies in ruins, torn apart by the brutal onslaught of werewolves, vampire hunters, and a powerful dragon.
Just moments ago, you were guests at the wedding of the notorious vampire pirate, Captain Gargenhale, and his betrothed, a beautiful wizard named Topola. The ceremony was opulent and grand, held on a magnificent blood arena soaring high above the glowing gas clouds at the edge of Doom Space.
But the festivities were cut short by a sudden attack. The werewolves descended upon the wedding, followed closely by the vampire hunters and the fearsome solar dragon. Chaos erupted as the wedding guests scrambled for cover, desperately trying to fend off the attackers.
Now, as the dust settles and the smoke clears, you find yourselves standing among the survivors, including the newlyweds. The arena and all of the ships are badly damaged, and the crews are frantically trying to make repairs before in case the fleet of elven ships decides to swing back around for another attack.
Amidst the chaos and destruction, a new adventure awaits. With the attackers still on the loose and the your ship in dire need of repairs, it’s up to you to navigate the treacherous hazards of Doomspace on your way to rendezvous with the World Ship.
